About the Teacher
Debbie Cohen, E-RYT-500
I have been teaching alignment-based yoga for thirty years. This will be my eighth year offering teacher training. I took yoga teacher trainings at the World Yoga Center in New York City (1996), the Swami Vivekandanda Yoga Anusandhanam Samsthana outside Bangalore, India (2001) and Kripalu Yoga Center in Barre, Massachusetts (2010). I studied with Iyengar-influenced teacher Barbara Benagh and Iyengar senior teacher Patricia Walden from 2001 to 2016 and currently study with alignment-based yoga teacher Doug Keller. I have been practicing zen buddhist meditation with Cheri Huber and the Living Compassion sangha for over 15 years and practiced vipassana and siddha yoga meditation for nearly 15 years before that. I studied the Yoga Sutra with Swami Brahmananda from the Sivananda ashram in the Bahamas. My practice has been profoundly influenced by Gurumayi Chidvilasananda of the Siddha yoga tradition. I have a BA and M.Ed from Harvard University and another MA in Applied Positive Psychology from UPenn. Prior to teaching yoga, I taught high school English for eight years.
